Even as progressives were savoring Barack Obama's "masterful" – indeed, "brain-searing" – performance at the House Republicans' retreat last Friday, their dazzling champion was busy applying himself with renewed and reckless vigor to that most un-progressive of occupations: saber-rattling around the world. The last few days have certainly seen a remarkable display of bellicosity by the Obama Administration, putting almost every tool in the militarist kit to use: nukes, ships, missiles, money, proxies and war-profiteering. With just a few flicks of the imperial wrist, Obama sent waves of destabilization through some of the most volatile regions on earth. Because the ultimate aim -- the only aim, really -- of the militarists' policy toward Iran is regime change. They don't care about "national security" or the "threat" from Iran's non-existent nuclear arsenal; they know that there is no threat whatsoever that Iran will attack Israel -- or even more ludicrously, the United States -- even if Tehran did have nukes. They don't care about the suffering of the Iranian people under a draconian, repressive and corrupt regime. They are not worried about Iran's "sponsorship of terrorism," for, as we've seen, the militarists thrive on -- when they are not actively fomenting -- the fear and anguish caused by terrorism. This fear is the grease that drives the ever-expanding war machine and 'justifies' its own ever-increasing draconian powers and corruption.

... It is so horrendously frustrating to see how much things haven't 'changed' under this current admin. The US needs to become an uterly failed and ruined empire, and fast, if the rest of the world is to have even a small chance. But with like minded people in charge all over, maybe it matters not at all. We may very well be doomed. We, down under, are to honoured(HA)by a vist from the leader of the 'free world', next week. Lucky us ;) |

Arthur Silber must write a book, publish it and sell it through an online book seller. All of us who have blogs will do his advertising for him. |

As the Caissons Keep Rolling Along... Oh yes we here in 'Merka always have a few extra trillion or so to spend on genocide, torture, WMD proliferation, and anything to do with proselytizing jeezus, especially in occupied lands where the people don't love him enough. We even engrave scripture on telescopic rifle sights for the inspiration of our gawd-fearin' troops, just so they shoot right! But we're fiscally responsible and don't spend a dime on wasteful projects like Medicare for all the people, or schools, or student loans, or green technology, or environmental clean up, or infrastructure rebuilding, or jobs creation, or jobs training for those currently unemployed due to the flight of capital to happy slave pools abroad or the final bankruptcy of their wild spending former employers, or foreclosure relief for the millions screwed by bailed out investment banks, or anything else that might be "socialism" and only encourage laziness in our beer-chugging sheeple. Oh fuck no! It would take a global coalition to stop us now, and that probably wouldn't work. We have a limitless cornucopia of nukes, chemicals, and weapons grade germs sufficient to wipe out anybody with any uppity idears like that, many times over, all laying on that famous table, and the world knows this, if nothing else. It's just going to have to collapse of its own internal putrescence. |

Remebering The Past Grandma Jefferson and I watched (again) "Fall Of Eagles" over the weekend. To those who haven't seen it, it shows the fall of three royal houses of the 19th-20th century, Austria, Germany and Russia, England isn't covered because the monarchy survived. What we were reminded of was the path America is taking, and we see where it will end. See above... |

Truly Appalling Yes. The object of the american imperial experiment is....(drumroll) more imperialism. Regime change. Drome attacks. Electoral interventions. Nation building for NAFTA. And baby snatching. What is appalling and frustrating in the "progressive" community is multiplex: The idea that Obama represents a progressive contituency at all. The idea that Obama is a closet progressive who nneeds his base or something to put his "feet to the fire" to effect his progressive agenda. The idea that the same crap Bushists did in power is OK as long as Obama does it. The idea that we should suppor the Man, the President, Obama, regardless of what despicable policies he pursues, becuase he is Obama, the democrat, etc. ad infinitum, barf, retch. The idea that Republicans are "worse" (whatever the fuck that means) and we have no alternative. The idea that Obama is doing the best he can in difficult circumstances, and we shouldn't expect him to "fix everything" the previous 8 years of the Bushists screwed up. What kills me is that I have heard many self-described "progressives" (I'm getting ready to adandon the title ebtirely), defend crap like unilateral war, extrajudicial assasination, evisceration of habeus corpus, all because we have to fight the "terr'ists" and cause Obama is so cool. It makes me sick. I probably got dumped from my last job over this, and I have even greater contempt fot liberal closet frauds who enable fascism than the balls-out crazy christian corporate theives who at least ADMMIT they represent the last stand of the WHITE CORPORATE EMPIRE. Maybe evil liberals are the problem. |

... Yes, Obama's more is less stategy... 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan, so that we can begin to pull out. 5 billion more dollars for nuclear remodeling, so that we can begin to cut back our arsenals. Increased deficits so that we can begin to balance our books. Get the logic yet? Obama as Wimpy... "I would gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today". |
