(UPDATED BELOW) A lone man on an airliner makes a badly botched attempt to ignite what appears to be some kind of hastily cobbled-together device that might or might not have caused some kind of unspecified but apparently non-crippling damage to the plane. The plane lands safely; no one is killed. A senior NATO official with knowledge of the operation said that the raid had been carried out by a joint Afghan-American force and that its target was a group of men who were known Taliban members and smugglers of homemade bombs, which the American and NATO forces call improvised explosive devices, or I.E.D.’s. ... “When the raid took place they were armed and had material for making I.E.D.’s,” the official added.
The governor of Kunar, Fazullah Wahidi, said that “the coalition claimed they were enemy fighters,” but that elders in the district and a delegation sent to the remote area had found that “10 people were killed and all of them were civilians.”
While some conventional American forces are deployed in Kunar, in the more remote areas most operations are carried out by Special Forces.
Mass death came again to the Iraqi town of Ishaqi last Friday. Nine months after an American raid that killed 11 civilians, including five children under the age of five, another ground and air assault on suspected insurgents in the area left behind a pile of corpses, including at least two children. As with the earlier incident, Friday's attack has produced conflicting stories of what really happened, but the end result is clear: a multitude of grieving, angry Iraqis further embittered against the American occupation.
UPDATE: Jason Ditz at Antiwar.com lays out the inevitable consequences of the failed alleged attempted incident in Detroit: Obama Vows ‘Accelerated Offensive’ in Yemen. While detailing the new thundering bloodlust of Obama and the Congressional hawks, Ditz also points out the inconvenient truth that they are using the Detroit incident as a retroactive "justification" for a new front in the Terror War that they had already opened long before the flight. But read the whole piece, and the many links, to see what fresh hell awaits us all -- especially the people of Yemen. Add this page to your favorite Social Bookmarking websites

... I still can't fathom the ignorance of the public at large. So I wonder why the PTB are even bothering to create these'false flag' stunts to jusify their bombing raids and don't just get on with it. BASTARDS |

Scientific Proof... ...For all those scurrilous doubters and whinging commie hippie liberals who are treasonous enough to doubt the purity of our mission in the middle east, there's a picture of the alleged "underwear bomb", which we all knew was coming, from somewhere, at http://www.americablog.com/2009/12/abc-gets-photos-of-bombers-explosive.html ..in case you could use a laugh. I personally suspect them to be formerly owned by "Scooter" Libby, but I'm notoriously twisted in my humor. Meanwhile, we now have all the justification we need to continue the slaughter of more innocent victims of collateral damage, in case anybody else has any uppity ideas about the legitimate purpose of undies. |

... And the levels of shameless sleaze and grease continue to get lacquered on. I've been hosting my 48 year-old autistic younger sister for a holiday visit at least once year. Just a year ago, so long as I was able to present identification, I was able to get clearance to go through security and meet her at the gate. It's not a difficult request, or even unreasonable, my sister has no focus or sense of direction and needs assistance. This year, due to the Yemeni "incident", things changed dramatically. She flew in the day after Christmas, and despite all, I was denied access to the gate and had to allow Alaska Airlines help to wheel her out to where I waited. And now I am informed by Alaska Airlines that If I want to escort her to her gate on the day she departs, I will have to purchase at least a one-way ticket myself, which is the only action I can take in which I have rights to go through security. My mere status as family member, or as co-guardian, isn't enough to prove that I have no sinister intent. Only my willingness to purchase a ticket I have no need for proves that I have no destructive design, according to the company managers I spoke to. In a nutshell, the Airline is using security phobia to extort money from the public in a more direct way. Amazing but true. God bless Amurika. |

... Michael, I feel for you. All the airline needs to do is have a well armed security type accompany you and your sister to her gate, and then you back from the gate. No cost to you and a public relations win for them. Extortion it is. |

... I guess it takes a war to teach Americans a little geography. .... So, the Houthi of northern Yemen are Shiite. They are battling the U.S. backed, largely Sunni, central government. The U.S. is targeting 'al Qaeda' in Yemen. 'Al Qaeda' is a fundamentalist Sunni movement. .... Yemen is marching headlong into about the 15th century. I see the fairyland adobe apartment blocks and labyrinthine alleys, secret gardens (where Pasolini filmed his beautifully evocative 'Arabian Nights'). The shrouded womenfolk, and the men, eyes glazed with khat, many sporting the ubiquitous kalashnikov... And there are Somali pirates marauding in the Gulf of Aden. .... Great God Almighty, send in the cavalry! |

... I am always horrified, and comforted, by the essays of Mr. Floyd. The idea that someone really gives-a-Fuck about the actual people being daily-destroyed by the self-defeating actions of a faux/front government clearly run-amok -- Man, that shit really bucks me up. That's my poem for today. No. It ain't Keats... Scott Douglas |

... Now that Sauron's eye is fixed firmly on both Yemen and America's airports, the depends-bomber has made a LOT of enemies. The Yemeni because now they're gonna get bombed, and the American flying public, who will probably now fly bombed. And, it's puzzling that the picture I've seen of this retard's tighty whitys don't appear to have any burn marks on them... Strange, considering that his pantslegs were on fire, flames lickin up the cabin wall an' all... |

More Americans Doomed to Death for Lack of HealthCare ...but none from terrorism, at least, as inflicted by foreigners. We have money in abundance for more "scanning machines", metal detectors, x-ray scanners, bomb-sniffing doggies, and the endless, unwieldy bureaucracy needed to run it, and the army of dull-normal sub-contractors needed to administer it. What slays me, always, is the public opinion, which now sighs all this is needed to "keep them safe", when it is nothing more than the elaborate machinery of tyranny, implanted to keep them obedient and cowed. How eager they are to be slaves! And they don't mind being driven to bankruptcy, ruin and death by so-called Health Insurance for profit cartels, because they sensibly understand that any form of Single Payer government backed universal health care would be Socialist and Communist and Islamofascist and fiscally irresponsible. Lately, I just long for the collapse, if only because I won't have to listen to the brainless cacophony of disgusting, nauseating bullshit any more. Watching the so-called "progressive" blogs embrace the idea of more mindless airport security, just so their guy in the WH looks good, is truly disgusting, although entirely predictable. Naturally they're now cool with bombing YEMEN, even though it was going on before this farce. Yemen, the newest threat to the sacred homeland! USA USA USA! |
